MOVE at the German Educational Research Association Congress
MOVE researchers presented project results at the 26th congress of the German Educational Research Association (GERA/DGfE), which took place in Essen (University Duisburg-Essen), from March 18-21. The congress focused on movements from an educational perspective.
The team from University Hildesheim (UH) presented their work on "Youth mobility as an opportunity - and obligation - to learn". They discussed the link between youth mobility in Europe and the topic of learning by showing a few ways in which the young people interviewed in MOVE connect learning to their mobility experiences. The presentation showed how learning becomes a necessity and the legitimation for youth mobility.
The researchers from University of Luxembourg (UL) discussed different forms of (in)security in the course of young people’s mobility in their presentation “Youth Mobility – experiencing (un)certainties”. Data showed two main processes linked with mobility and security: (1) search for financial security, and (2) a balance between limitedness and safety. The contribution questioned the positive side of mobility, which has been taken for granted, while shedding light on struggles, frictions and (in)securities young people are confronted with while being mobile.
